Act now to save lives in Gaza, ICRC head urges world leaders

The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has described Gaza as worse than hell on Earth, calling on world leaders to do more to help save lives in the territory.

Mirjana Spoljaric, speaking to the BBC's international editor Jeremy Bowen at the ICRC headquarters in Geneva, said what was happening in Gaza surpassed any acceptable legal, moral and humane standard.

The ICRC is an international organisation that operates in war zones and has more than 300 staff in Gaza, most of whom are Palestinians.
