Air India plane crash claims at least 241 lives as one passenger survives

Details emerge about the doomed jet

The aircraft that crashed was an Air India Express Boeing 737-800, which had dropped off at Kozhikode before departing for Dubai. It had been servicing the Kerala region since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and, on both of its previous flights that day, had flown close to full capacity.

The lone survivor's miraculous escape

Amazingly, 18-year-old Deepti Sharma survived the impact and ensuing fire by pulling herself out of the rubble, despite sustaining serious injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she is currently being treated for her injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
