All the people are hungry': Voices from Gaza on desperate lack of food

Denied entry to report inside Gaza, the BBC relies on freelancers

All week long, the BBC has been hearing from individuals in Gaza about their lives as food supplies are restricted, leading to starvation and malnutrition.

The BBC is prohibited from reporting in Gaza, and we rely on trusted freelancers to provide essential material. Unfortunately, this week, we joined other news organizations in warning that the lack of food means our contributors are increasingly unable to feed themselves and their families.

Blame exchanged between Israeli government and Hamas

The Israeli government, which controls the entry of all supplies into Gaza, claims that starvation is not their fault, blaming Hamas for stealing food. On the other hand, most international aid organizations contend that it is Israel that is failing the population. As the occupying power under international law, Israel has a legal responsibility to protect the population from hunger and starvation.

Stories of those speaking to the BBC

The BBC has compiled some of the stories and images from the week – this report contains images of malnourished children.
