Brazil judge orders house arrest of former president Jair Bolsonaro

Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro will be placed under house arrest due to criminal allegations stemming from the capital riot in the United States.

Judge Marcelino Saltor said the decision was made due to fears that Bolsonaro could flee or interfere with ongoing investigations.

Bolsonaro has been in the United States since late December, and he has made no comment on the allegations.

Protests have recently broken out in response to Bolsonaro's defeat in the recent presidential election.

More than 1,500 people have been detained for these protests, with over 200 still remaining in custody.

Tensions have risen as a result of these protests, and the current administration is concerned about the stability of the country.
