British woman dies after rafting incident in French Alps
Liz Edwards, 55, was on a rafting trip with her family when she slipped and fell into the Arve River
The accident occurred in the town of Passy, near the border with Switzerland, on Saturday afternoon. Ms. Edwards, a UK native who lived in France for over 20 years, was declared dead at the scene by rescue services.
Family & Friends Mourn Loss
On Sunday, Ms. Edwards' family and friends gathered for a candlelight vigil at the rafting camp, and have started a fundraiser to help with costs associated with her death.
Local authorities investigate
The Savoie prefecture said an investigation into the "unfortunate" accident is ongoing, and authorities have closed the river to rafters until the cause of the accident is determined.
