Building housing indigenous art burns down in Canada's wildfires

A warehouse housing indigenous artwork and artifacts was destroyed by wildfires in Canada. The building in La Ronge, Saskatchewan, housed a variety of items including beaded jackets, birchbark baskets, and antler carvings. The owner expressed a profound sense of loss in a Facebook post and stated that they were seeking a permanent home for the artifacts when the fire struck. The warehouse had been closed since December 2023 and only opened occasionally.

Efforts are being made to recover the artifacts

Although the building and many artifacts were destroyed by the flames, efforts are being made to recover the remaining artifacts with the help of the fire department. It is not known whether the warehouse was insured. The owner has started a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the restoration of the artifacts and to find a new, permanent home for them.
