Tragedy on the Road

A solemn bus journey home from a funeral turned tragic when a speeding lorry rammed into the vehicle from behind, killing at least 25 people and injuring 11 others. The accident occurred at around midday on the Nairobi-Meru highway, about 120 kilometres north of the capital.

Officials Suspect Driver Was Drunken

Police suspect the lorry driver was intoxicated, as he attempted to overtake the bus when traffic ahead had slowed down. The driver, who survived the crash, tried to flee the scene but was apprehended and taken into police custody.

Road accidents Common in Kenya

The East African nation is no stranger to traffic accidents, as the infrastructure for a population of nearly 55 million continues to be a challenge. In 2022, authorities reported at least 32,000 accidents nationwide, with more than 300 deaths every month.
