Dozens of Ghanaians trafficked in job scam rescued in Nigeria
BETWEEN AGENTS AND THE GHANAIAN GOVERNMENT, AN IMPORTANT RESCUE OPERATION TO ASSIST TRAFFICKED PEOPLE
Officials in Nigeria recently conducted a successful rescue operation of dozens of Ghanaians who were victims of a trafficking scheme. The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Ghanaian government and involved agencies from both countries. The victims were promised job opportunities in Nigeria but faced forced labor and extortion once across the border. The rescue operation is a significant collaboration between the two governments to tackle the issue of human trafficking.
The operation targeted a network of recruiters who had promised the victims' jobs in Nigeria's booming entertainment industry. Upon arrival, the victims were forced to hand over their passports and subjected to harsh working conditions. They were forced to work long hours with little to no pay and were threatened and extorted for more money. Some were even physically abused.
The rescue operation was a collaboration between Nigeria's National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Ghanaian authorities. Together, they were able to locate the victims, who had been held in a remote area of Nigeria. The victims are now being provided with assistance and are being processed for repatriation to Ghana.
The success of this operation is a significant milestone in the fight against human trafficking in the region. Both governments are urging victims to come forward and asking members of the public to report any suspected cases of human trafficking.
