Dozens of soldiers seized in Colombian mountains
Armed men detain over two dozen soldiers in restive region
More than two dozen soldiers have been seized in the Colombian mountains, reportedly abducted from their barracks by armed men, multiple sources said. The soldiers were taken from their quarters in the Restive Catatumbo region, which borders Venezuela, according to Reuters.
Local media also confirmed the abductions, saying that the soldiers were taken to a undisclosed location. The regional army commander, Colonel Jose Martinez, said that the soldiers were seized during "a protest" at the military base.
The abductions come amid a worsening security situation in Colombia, as the country struggles to stem the tide of violence and creeping insurgency.
