Faroes-style tunnels could 'transform' fortunes for Shetland isles

The Faroe Islands could be a model for transformative infrastructure in Shetland. Shetland Islands Council CEO Stephen Carter suggested that the local authority is exploring the possibility of tunneling to link the islands of Shetland in a way reminiscent of the Faroes Tunnel, which connects the Faroe Islands.

The proposal comes as part of efforts to improve transportation in the region and enhance connectivity between the islands. Carter emphasized that Shetland Islands Council is exploring different options and perspectives to address the unique challenges of the region.
