Gaza aid contractor tells BBC he saw colleagues fire on hungry Palestinians
Eyewitness Account from Palestinian Aid Worker
A Palestinian aid contractor working with an ICRC delegation in Gaza has told the BBC that he witnessed events taking a dangerous turn for the worst. The contractor, who we are keeping anonymous for safety reasons, alleges that he saw Palestinian ICRC colleagues fire on starving people multiple times.
Accusations & Violent Reactions
The contractor, who has worked on numerous aid missions in war-torn areas, says it wasn't anything like what he had seen before. He explained how he saw Palestinian Red Cross volunteers firing at starving people who were trying to break into the organization's food warehouses. It is believed that the shootings occurred because the aid workers were fearful for the food stockpiles and their own safety.
Turmoil & Hunger
The contractor stated that the incidents occurred during the height of the 2022 Palestinian uprising, which saw intense violence and a tightening of restrictions against the movement of people and goods.
