Hungary Pride to Defy Orban

The annual Pride march will proceed along its usual route, despite threats of legal consequences from the country's authoritarian leader.

The announcement comes after dozens of activists gathered outside the parliament building yesterday to rally in support of the event. Prime Minister Viktor Orban has risen to international prominence by portraying LGBTQ+ rights as a threat to traditional Hungarian values, and by widely publicizing his refusal to accept migrants and refugees, particularly those fleeing the conflicts in Syria and Afghanistan.

Despite Orban's threats, the Pride march has been held annually since 1997 and often attracts thousands of participants and international attention. The event, which is expected to draw a large crowd this year as well, will take place on July 2nd.
