Italian 'hero' sniffer dog killed with nail-filled sausages
A hero sniffer dog dubbed the "Italian Sherlock Holmes" has met a grim fate, allegedly killed by criminals who stuffed sausages with nails and left the remains at the police training center where he worked.
Police Shocked
The Italian police said they were shocked by the death of Nicolo, a bloodhound who helped them solve dozens of cases.
Merchants of Death?
They suspect Nicolo was killed by the "same merchants of death" who stuffed the sausages with nails or razor blades and left them at the training school's gate.
Heartbreaking Farewell
The canine's handler, Stefano Solari, said the dog's death was a "painful blow," adding that "it was like parting ways with a friend."
The Impactful Crime
The crime had "a huge impact, both for the police and the entire nation," according to Italian Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese.
