Japan arrests primary school teachers for sharing upskirt photos
Teacher Arrested
Two female primary school teachers were arrested in Japan for allegedly taking and sharing upskirt photos of
students at the school, authorities said Tuesday, with weekly tabloid magazines allegedly paying the
women for the photos.
Students Affected
The arrests, which come amid heightened scrutiny over the handling of sexual abuse allegations
in Japan, highlight concerns about the potential impact on the victims' well-being and
psychological health, as well as the impact on the school environment.
Police Investigation
The teacher, aged 47, and the assistant teacher, aged 66, were arrested on June 18 and 19,
respectively, on suspicion of violating a child welfare law that bars the photographing
of students in explicit material. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
tabloids involved
The scandal emerged after a parent found their primary school child among those
featured in one of the magazines, which have since stopped publishing, and reported it to
police. Two tabloid magazines, which have since ceased publication, are alleged to have
paid for the photos.
