Man who jumped from edge of space dies paragliding

The daredevil, who infamously leaped from the edge of space in a rocket-powered suit, died Monday while paragliding.

The 40-year-old's body was discovered after he failed to return from a flight in the Swiss Alps, according to reports.

Police in the resort town of Interlaken said paragliding is among the most dangerous sports and it is very difficult to protect its enthusiasts from themselves, according to BBC News.

Eckerts said Air Zermatt began searching Monday night after the paraglider did not return to the Zermatt airport and was later found dead.

He was the first person to rocket his way to space in a suit designed by his father, which was modified from a prototype originally built for NASA.
