New Zealand woman arrested after two-year-old found in luggage
A two-year-old child was found in a woman's luggage as she attempted to board a flight at a New Zealand airport.
A woman in her 30s has been arrested after attempting to board a flight at Auckland Airport with a two-year-old child concealed in her luggage.
The woman, who was not identified, was arrested and facing charges for violating the Immigration Act 2009 and Child Protection Act 1999.
Officials became suspicious
According to reports, the woman had walked into the airport's international departure area but attracted the attention of
officials who became suspicious after seeing her behaving oddly.
The woman was subsequently
questioned by police and investigators from the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment.
After she became agitated during the questioning, investigators conducted a search and found the child in her luggage.
Child's wellbeing in priority
The police and airport authorities
stressed that the child's
welfare is their priority.
The woman has been
charged with violating the Immigration Act 2009 by furnishing false or misleading information and violating the Child Protection Act 1999
by undertaking a dangerous act (endangering harm).
The woman was released pending trial after being charged with these offenses.
