Police identify 20-year-old suspect in Idaho firefighter ambush
A 20-year-old man has been identified as the suspect accused of ambushing and killing an Idaho police officer and injuring a firefighter last week, authorities said on Tuesday. The officer, who was identified as 49-year-old David Evans, was responding to a report of a disturbed person on June 29 when he was shot and killed. Authorities said the suspect, Laramie Wells, had stayed at the residence the night before the shooting and had a relationship with the homeowner's daughter. During the investigation, Wells was identified as a suspect in the shooting and was located in a house near the shooting scene. The homeowner initially refused to exit the residence, but eventually came outside and was taken into custody without incident. Wells is charged with murder and assault. He is being held on a $2 million bond. The injured firefighter, who has not been identified, is expected to survive.
