Police Chief's Statement
"Last night, gun violence struck our community and stole the life of our brother, Officer Daniel Shim. Along with Officer Shim, three other victims were also shot and killed in a gruesome attack. We are devasted and our thoughts are with their families. Rest assured, we will find the perpetrators and bring them to justice."
What Happened
Around 5 pm EST, multiple shots were fired within a commercial office building in downtown Manhattan. Officers arrived on the scene and located multiple victims, including a police officer who was stationed at the building. All four individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation Status
The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the shooting as a hate crime, given the officer's ethnicity. The officer, Daniel Shim, was of Korean descent. Chief of Detectives, Lauren Fitzpatrick, stated that there is no clear motive and that the investigation is still ongoing.
