Russian President Vladimir Putin has presented a state award to President Trump's special envoy, for the son of a CIA official killed fighting in Ukraine, according to reports. The White House has confirmed that the son of Trump's deputy national security adviser, Charles Kupperman, was killed in Ukraine in March. He had traveled to Ukraine to fight alongside Ukrainian forces against Russia. Now, Putin has presented the Order of Honour to Trump's envoy, who is Kupperman's longtime friend. The Kremlin says the award was given in recognition of the bravery of Kupperman's son, who has not been named, and "his intentions to defend the territorial integrity of Ukraine." The unusual gesture has taken Western officials by surprise.
