Several dead after tourist boat capsizes in Vietnam

The accident occurred on the Snake River, in the Binh Thuan province of Vietnam. The boat, carrying more than 20 passengers, was underway during a stormy monsoon season when a sudden gust of wind flipped the vessel. State-of-the-art life jackets were provided for all passengers, but reports state that these life-saving devices were not properly secured and thus rendered useless when the accident occurred.
Rescue Operations
Search and rescue operations were ongoing as of publishing, with local fishermen aiding in the effort to find survivors. At present, the total number of casualties is believed to be 16, with three recovered alive and four more still missing.
Investigations
Local police have begun an investigation into the cause of the accident, with a particular focus on determining liability. Many suspect that the ferry company may have been negligent in their duty of care, as this is the second such accident to occur in the past two months, resulting in the death of nearly 30 people.
