Texas camp buildings were removed from map showing flood risks, US media reports

Several buildings at a Boy Scouts camp in Texas were removed from a map showing flood risks in the area, US media report.

The buildings at Camp Siouville, near Magnolia, were once marked on the map on the Google Maps platform, but were removed between April and June this year, according to Dallas News.

Google Maps shows satellite images of the camp with and without the buildings.

A company linked to the Boy Scouts of America, known as the BSA, filed for a permit in April to remove the structures, according to records from the Collin County Engineering Department.

The BSA told Dallas News it was "unaware of the situation" and "looking into it".

"The safety and well-being of young people in our care is the BSA's top priority," it added in a statement.

The organisation also told the local news site KBTX it was "troubled by these reports" and would "take steps to better understand this issue and fully address it".

In a statement on social media, the BSA added: "We apologise for any pain these actions have caused and pledge to do better, ensuring we conduct ourselves in a way worthy of the public trust. "

The organisation has previously been criticised for not making campsite buildings accessible to people with disabilities.
