BBC Gaza correspondent, Sahar Abughazal, has stated that the current period is the most difficult time she has faced in her life, with her children unable to feed themselves or go to school. The situation is a result of the economic crisis in Palestine, which has led to over one million people losing their jobs and suffering from hunger. The ongoing conflict and loss of livelihoods have made it impossible for many families to put food on the table, with Abughazal saying that she and her husband are no longer able to provide for their children. “We are hungry, we are helpless”, she states. “We can’t provide for our children, we can’t send them to school.” The crisis has also resulted in widespread protests and violence, with many people demanding an end to the suffering and for their basic needs to be met. The situation is dire, with Abughazal stating that “even the birds have stopped singing” due to the despair.
