Ticket resellers employ overseas workers to bulk-buy
Employees secretly use company funds to hire foreign workers
Employees of companies selling tickets for popular events have been secretly using their positions to bulk-buy tickets themselves. Reporters working for the BBC spoke to people who recognize the practice, with one company admitting to the practice.
How do bulk buys work?
The employees delegate the task of bulk buying to other people, often overseas, who can use multiple payment cards and IP addresses to hide the bulk purchase from the event organizers. The practice is known as "ticket brokering"
How bad is the problem?
One ticket reseller, based in the UK, admitted that 10% of their company's revenue came from bulk-bought tickets. While it is difficult to estimate the scope of the issue, industry experts agree it is becoming a growing problem that negatively impacts fans and artists alike.
