Volcano Erupts in Iceland
A volcano has erupted in Iceland, spewing out streams of bright yellow and orange lava. This is one of ~12 eruptions that have occurred since volcanic systems on the Reykjanes peninsula near Reykjavik became active again in 2021. Magma breaking through the Earth's crust created a large fissure estimated to be between 0.7 and 1km (0.4 to 0.6 miles) long. Scientists have issued warnings that eruptions in this region could continue for decades or even centuries.
