World's 'oldest' marathon runner dies at 114 in hit-and run

Johannes Drappa, the world's oldest marathon runner, has died at the age of 114 in a hit-and-run incident. The accident occurred in his hometown of Basel, Switzerland where he had resided for the past 60 years. Known for his love of sports, Drappa had participated in numerous marathons both locally and internationally, despite his age. Even at 114, he had already completed the Basel marathon just six weeks prior to his passing. Although he will be greatly missed within the marathon community and the city of Basel, his inspiring legacy will live on through the annual Johannes Drappa Award, given to the oldest, most accomplished marathon runner each year.
